Davturn Ltd turns to MecWash to help deliver operational improvements

Repetition turned parts specialist, Davturn Ltd, has invested in a refurbished MecWash Mini aqueous component cleaning system to improve operational efficiency and ensure it is able to offer customers the best service possible at all times.

Based in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, Davturn Ltd is a family run business that prides itself on its ability to produce high quality CNC machined turned parts for use in the automotive, hydraulics and fasteners sectors.

With growing customer demand and added pressures of increased component quality, Davturn Ltd required a new wash system that would thoroughly clean and remove metalworking coolants and degreaser residue from all manufactured components without affecting operations or production time.

Davturn’s Managing Director, Mark Birley, comments, “We currently use a vapour degreaser, but it is not particularly versatile. The new, operator friendly, wash system offers a variety of wash cycles which will help us to achieve operational efficiencies, as well as improving the quality of our products to ensure we continue to meet the demanding high standards required by our customers.”

Mark and Davturn Director Mathew Birley, a former Premiership footballer for Birmingham City FC, were introduced to MecWash at the UK’s leading manufacturing technologies exhibition ‘MACH’ earlier this year, where they were both extremely impressed by the MecWash Duo demonstrations.

MecWash has not made the Mini range for a few years, but it is able to achieve similar standards of cleanliness to the Duo as it provides spray and immersion washing. The MecWash Mini is a smaller component wash system and this particular machine included valuable features such as a mist rinse, hot air dry and double filtration, complete with a load volume of 50 Kilos - ideally suited to Davturn’s machining capacity and customer requirements.

The MecWash Mini will be the latest addition to Davturn’s workshop under the company’s ‘continual investment’ programme, which ensures parts are machined using the latest CNC equipment including sliding head machines from STAR and Miyano fixed head machines.

As a forward-thinking business, Davturn recognises that investing in new equipment is a necessary, but sometimes costly, exercise. So when it learnt that MecWash had a refurbished machine in stock it was keen to find out if it would be suitable for its requirements.

Mathew elaborates, “As a small business we need to make sure that we’re always investing in quality machinery that will last – it simply isn’t cost effective to buy inferior quality equipment because as well as not operating as efficiently as higher end alternatives, it also needs replacing far sooner.

“Any down time in production due to equipment failure can have a significant impact on any production facility, but in smaller operations it can be the difference between make or break.

“MecWash systems are renowned in the industry for their superior quality and life-spans.”

MecWash Managing Director John Pattison comments, “MecWash has an established reputation for manufacturing machines that not only work extremely well, but are also capable of operating for a very long time thanks to the quality of components we use.

“Our dedicated engineers provide structured programmes of preventative maintenance as well as ad hoc servicing and support to ensure all MecWash systems continue to operate as efficiently as when they were first installed.

“Customers can be confident than an investment in MecWash is one they won’t regret.”

He continues, “MACH 2014 was extremely successful for MecWash – the order from Davturn was one of a number of quality enquiries we received at the show and we’re looking forward to catching up with some of our existing and prospective customers at Aero Engineering later this year.”
